Ball valve above the ballast pump?

I'm replacing the old manual ballast valves in my 2004 SANTE with solenoid ball valves. I would like to keep them higher up out of the hull and water if possible. My question is, can I place the valve above the pump like the 2nd pic below?

I wonder if the pump (although primed all the time) would be able to draw the water up and over. But then again, it you toss a hose overboard attached to pump, it draws the water up. In theory it should work. So I guess I'm looking for anyone that has tried this, with or without success?

Agreed, need to know what type of pump it is. If it's a Jabsco or similar, it'll prime itself.

The 2004 stock pump is an aerator pump. If you have reversible pumps i don;t see the need for the electric ball valve as they would seal themselves.

Are you trying to keep these up higher cause you get water in the bilge and don't want the actual electric units to get wet?

I installed mine a few weeks ago, and i just ran them inline directly behind the pumps. I was going to go after the pumps, but I was having a hard time finding a threaded/barbed fitting that was big enough.

I don't think i should have any issue with them getting wet where they are installed. I have never had that much water in my bilge.

They are aerator pumps. Stock on the 2004 SANTE. They are not the reversible Jabsco type. I currently mounted the ball valves where the old valves were. The new valves are IP65 – Water resistant to spraying of water, not to powerful jets of water. So they will probably be alright. I just thought if they were mounted up even with the motor, that would keep them out of the bilge and nice a dry.

We used to open the ball valves and then drive about surf speed for 30 sec with pumps on to prime them
