raw water strainer backwards

just notice my raw water strainer is backwards from the factory.
should i bother swapping it around, or does it not matter?? arrow points to the through hole pick-up

Yeah, just flip it around. Someone at the factory was in too much of a hurry.

i just flipped it around. had to remove the unit from the mounting bracket. the barbed hose ends are threaded and just screw out. the hardest part was unbolting the bracket while working in the small drain plug access port

I have a 2003, 216 and was cleaning my strainer and noticed that my strainer was installed backwards as well, it has been like that for the 3 years I have owned the boat. I have replaced all of the hoses (boat only had 170 hours on it when I received it and I blew 1 hose while footing), impeller and thermostat but it never dawned on me to expect the strainer to be installed incorrectly. Does anyone know the difference functionally if they are installed backwards? I changed the thermostat at the same time because I was getting drastic temperature fluctuations (160 down to 100, back to 160 etc.) when the thermostat opened and this appears to have stabilized but I am not sure if it was from the thermostat or flipping the strainer around. I noticed some debris in the thermostat which may have been the main culprit.

i would guess if installed backwards the gunk accumulates inside the filter area and not outside...but probably does filter it...
