Is my oil level really that high?

Checked my oil on my new (used) 2019 230. Just arrived from the dealer and they changed the oil to prep for sale according to the documentation. Here is what the dipstick looks like. Is the oil really that overfilled?! I have one with the oil and one where I wiped the oil off for comparison so you can see the level indicator.

Is your boat in the water? To get an accurate reading, the boat should be in the water, sitting level, not on the trailer.

That oil doesn't look like it was just changed either. I have about 20 hours on my current oil, and just checked it yesterday, and it is still golden and clean-looking.

it looked pretty dirty to me, too, so between the overfill and color, I feel like it wasn’t really changed by the dealer. They are a big nautique dealer so I am a bit surprised.

So does that mean I shouldn’t take it back out until I have taken it to a dealer for an oil change and removal of excess oil?

From the photo, that looks like it either was not changed, out not drained completely. If it was not completely drained and then filled to spec, that would explain the oil level. You should definitely be sire you are not way overfilled. At the top of the fill limit of a hair over maybe ok, but not overfilled.

The dealer is 90 minutes away. I am tempted to drain the current oil and replace it. It’s a 2019 pcm zr4. Is that reasonable or does this need to go to the dealer?

Nah, you can do it.

I would do it myself for sanity reasons but I would have a chat with the dealer and share your findings with all when you drain it.
If this is on a CAT motor I would be concerned that it may have effected any Oxygen sensors or the cats due to excessive blow by.

Just a data point, I just changed my oil on a 2020 G23 at 25 hours and pulled out 7.3 quart on what the manual says is a 6 quart engine. I then replaced the oil with 6 quarts (which included almost 1 quart poured directly into the oil filter). I then ran the engine for 5 minutes, let it sit for 10 minutes and the oil level was right at the add line. I put in half a quart which then brought it right to the full mark. So 6.5 quarts on a PCM ZZ6. But don’t be surprised if the dealer (Or the factory in my case) over fills the oil tank.
