Did carb kit on Holley 95 Nautique, float level adjustments ? Help!

My 95 Nautique was running rough-ish at the end of last year and decided to do a carb kit. Got it all done and started it up to what sounded like a Topfuel dragster on the staging line it was that rough. Couldn’t hold and idle less than 1500 rpm and it was loud and tons of grey smoke and burnt oil coming out. I figured it was the fogging oil (hopefully) shut it down and talked to mechanic who said did you set the float levels?

Can’t find those screws on my model of carb.

The adjustments shown on the second picture are for a automotive carb. The marine carb has the be set by removing the float bowls. How did it run before you rebuilt the carb?

Hunter, it was running ok beginning of last season ok then gradually getting more rough where I had to finally adjust the idle higher. Plugs, points condenser all checked and we’re good. I figured the carb, being as old as it was, needed new seals, o-rings etc and it was time.

Had and a tremendously bad result in that it barely ran and was extremely rough.
Ill have a further look on YouTube for methods of how to adjust the bowls on this marine version of the Holley carb. Any documentation you can point me to would be great, Thanks !

man those non adjustable float holleys are a pita. recommend buying you some bowls with the adjustable type floats to access from the outside. will look just the same but have the needle valves like the dual feed in the photo below. otherwise you have to measure from the floor of the bowls with them removed then put it all back together and hope you got it right. think you need to adjust the float levels on a marine holley with the boat in the water. inevitably the rear float levels will be different from the front. fwiw. I built one like that a while back and the front level was like 11/32" and the rear was 5/16". Only adjustment is bending the tabs on the float.

Talked to a few experts including the local Nautique dealer and the consensus is that the carb is fu#/ed due to deposits, corrosion etc from running lees than premium gas for approximately 10 years.

So I HIGHLY recommend if you’ve got a boat of this age with gradual performance and idle problems, do a carb kit, with the necessary adjustments, that doesn’t work and you’ve been running gas with ethanol? Time for a new carb.
