    reverse doesn't always engage

I have an 2006, ski nautique 206 and I'm having some transmission or linkage issues. Occasionally when pulling up to the dock I go to reverse and it doesn't engage. If you turn the boat off and restart everything is fine. It isn't happening often, but it obviously could be disaterous. Yesterday for thew first time this happened in forward as well.

When this happens, the boat idles regardless of the throttle being engaged, RPM's just stay at idle speed. Any help wopuld be appreciated.

Assuming the fluid is clean and full the next thing to check is the shifter/throttle control linkage. When the helm shifter is in each forward, neutral and reverse make sure the lever on the actual transmission is being moved and hitting each detent for corresponding forward, neutral and reverse.
