Great write up!

I’ve got a question regarding oil. I’ve always used Rotella T in my ZR6. Had a gallon that I put in yesterday, figured I just pick up 2 more qts today. Can’t find it anywhere! After googling, looks like T is replaced with T4 now. Any insight as T4 being a good replacement and ok to mix T4 with T?

All 6L engines should be running Dexos Gen 2 5W-30 now. 15W-40 is no longer recommended.

Great work! I used to use the hand pump. I have a buddy that sells MAC tools and I bought this:

Sucks it out cold or hot really quickly. I attach it as shown in Greg’s post. Fast and easy and can pump it outside the boat to a receptacle if desired.

For those so inclined RDT-G23 had a great idea to use hydraulic quick connectors to more easily connect your favorite oil extractor to the engine oil drain hose.

They screw right on the FIP connectors used by PCM. Available in brass or stainless.

This (above) is what the male, "poppet style" QD looks like mounted to the oil drain line on the boat. You can see the poppet that ensures no leakage here.

Gregg - excellent write-up, thank you! Changed the oil in my G21 last week following your procedures to a T, and it was a piece of cake. Really, really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and expertise.

Glad that it helped you. I have come to learn that there is no need to-prefill oil filters. So that would be the only change I would add, making the process a bit less messy. All the best!

Yup, saw that in the ZZ-8 oil change thread. I did pre-fill the filter, didn't cause any issues but good to know it's not necessary. Going to order the quick-connects to make it that much easier. I've done a million oil changes before, this was the first one that made me nervous!
