Fake-a-Lake alternative / running engine on land

    Hello All,
    First post here.
Hoping I can get some advice on true and tested alternatives to the fake-a-lake plunger method for starting my engine on land.
I just inherited a 1985 Ski Nautique 2001 that has been sitting in storage for 5 years without being turned over.
It has a transmission issue and all I know is that the last time it was used, it had trouble getting up to speed and was quoted at a $1100 repair...
My first move is to change the oil and I want to get it started to heat it up.
The water intake bevel on the hull is too big for the plunger system and I am wondering what the best alternative is.
Can I simply keep a hose into the water filter? Should I remove the hose leaving the water filter and get a fitting to attach a garden hose?
Whats the easiest way so I can do this with minimal effort at later dates?

Here's how I did it on my 1994 Sport. Just removed the hose coming out of the water strainer, and the clamped the hose using the same clamp. Worked great.

My 84 I would always just put a hose with no hose fitting on it in the hole going to the pump in your strainer basket with the lid off. However since hearing about issues with cooling systems that are hidden due to your well pump pressure feeding the Raw Water pump I have switched to a Timmy T setup. Do a search on it, it works great.

        Thank you billywro and mpost!
The timmy T setup is exactly what I envisioned the other day. Glad it protects the pump as well.
Will try and get one setup tomorrow and see how it goes
