2000 Ski Nautique, EFI, no throttle response

well that was interesting.

First time on the lake this year (replaced the ignition keypad last week, as it was smoking...yah, not kidding). Starts right up, runs perfect, goes into reverse and forward, but have ZERO engine acceleration. Its like the cable isnt connected to the throttlebody. idled back to the boat, towed it home and havent even opened the hood to remove the engine plastic shroud.

Gosh i hope this isnt "throttle by wire" and its just a cable thats broken (throttle level "feels like" it is connected).

thoughts/suggestions before i dive in?

You should have a gt40 in there good old throttle cable, could also be perfect pass holding it down.
Should not be to hard to find out what's wrong.

validated cables are connected to the throttle body and moving with no restrictions (also moves cable to the perfect pass solenoid. Throttle body looks "chalky" on the outside...with white specs on the top of the engine. Not sure whats up with that.

Removed flame arrestor and moved the throttle plate with my fingers.

Tomorrow ill connect the fake a lake and start the engine (trans in neutral) and see if i can accelerate the engine.

perhaps clean throttle body with spray clean as well.

still stumped......

If I remember this right you should not be able to open the throttle plate with your fingers but I could be wrong.
Did you go full throttle and and did the throttle blade open?

after i used my fingers to move the throttle plate (i did not go to WOT), i then watched the throttle plate open via moving the throttle back and forth

so i dont know if it was stuck closed and i freed it up with my fingers, or if there is something else going on.

Will know tomorrow post fake a lake connection and starting the engine.

It's almost impossible that the throttle plate would open and the engine would not schow any kind of reaction.

cleaned up throttle body (with Throttle body cleaner), connected fake a lake and seems now i have throttle control again.

Question, how far is the throttle plate supposed to open up at WOT? doesnt seem like its opening much (see pic).

It should open all the way what you see in the pic is not enough.

thought so....one thing when i took the pic the engine wasnt on so the perfect pass had not "cycled/tightened up".

Ill see how it goes on the lake...headed out now.

SOLVED.

the throttle cable going to the perfect pass actuator was loose.. all i had to do to get throttle plate movement to WOT was tighten the black knob on the perfect pass actuator.

I feel somewhat stupid....but happy

I'm having a similar issue I think. Boat cranks/idles fine, goes into forward and reverse but won't go more than 1,500rpm with lever all the way down. The throttle does not feel right (not smooth).
I had the Perfect Pass off to replace spark plug wires and put it back on slightly further up. It was just held on with zip ties so I assumed location did not matter? Is there some adjustment to get the perfect pass in the correct place? Is zip ties holding it to heater hose normal?

kend Are you sure you're not in Limp Mode? Is the Check Engine light on?

No check engine, temp is 170. The throttle does nothing except go in gear until the last two inches

I'd check the PP installation then.

Also, zip ties should be replaced with hose clamps. You don't want those zip ties breaking at a bad time.
