I think the check valve ensures that the water is only flowing when there is proper pressure applied to it (by the pump). I did find this diagram (obviously not Nautique, but it shows the parts):

do you know if our systems have 2 check valves per side? I can see the upper one on the vent hose
do you know which valves they replaced?

I would guess there is two (there is one on the bottom in that diagram as well) and I am not sure if they replaced both or not. I was getting fairly adamant with them about how it wasn't working properly. (It was consistently not working for me.) So I wouldn't be surprised if they changed anything that they could get to.

What i have concluded is the ballast is holding water even though the boat indicates the ballast is empty. I can turn the boat off and back on and the boat will say no ballast. However, if I turn the kill switch OFF at the battery and then turn it back ON the boat shows the starboard ballast is holding between 750-1,000lbs of ballast. Its going in to the dealer next week for some other warranty work and they are going to look at the issue.

That is exactly what mine was doing. I would have them replace the check valves. They tried re-routing hoses and other things, it was finally fixed once the check valves were replaced.

my 2021 GS24 is doing that exact thing at 10 hours - now at 22 (was in shop for 4 hours running) - i posted something yesterday and was told to check the valves that empty ballast even though dash says "0" - my boat too would say ballast was empty - will be taking to the shop in the next few weeks.

at speed mine was difficult to steer too - where i had to ease off throttle and essentially readjust and then start moving again.
