ok here goes, been lurking here awhile......
The boat is a 1992 SNOB GT40 w/carb and pro-tech.Have had a intermittent problem with the boat popping the 60amp circuit breaker when shutting down after running at skiing speed. In the beggining(1995), it happened maybe once a season...if that, not a big deal.
Just got back from the River, and on this trip it would pop the breaker after every run, but only when you shut the engine off.Tried letting it idle for a few minutes before shutting her down but still popped the breaker. All wires are tight on the starter and the breaker terminals.(in the past I associated the problem with wires which were just slightly loose on the starter solenoid?)The boat also will, on occasion, under throttle, hesitate for a tenth of a second but does not stutter more than for a fraction of a second. This boat is in perfect shape,450hrs, does not drip any fluids, and other than the above problem runs perfectly.(Does about 47mph spinning a 4blade OJ prop)
Just replaced the plugs and drained the fuel out at the beginning of the season.I'm
thinking maybe a voltage leak to ground, leaking spark plug wires, circuit breaker possibly weak, starter solenoid leaking to ground, but why only when it shuts down???
If it was a ground leak, I would think the pro-tech would go into limp mode.
ANY input from you folks here would be greatly appreciated. As of right now I'm
gonna replace both breakers, spark plug wires and starter solenoid. this to me is a shot in the dark but kinda my only option at this point.(going to Naci. for the reunion in a few weeks no time to take in for service)I'm pretty capable with a volt meter so fire away your suggestions....Sorry for the long post.
Thanks in advance!
Ron
