Day after we took delivery on our 2020 GS20, we puttered away from the dock (literally at 650rpm, in gear but little/no throttle), the engine temp shot up to 199 very rapidly and we turned the engine off. No warning was displayed, I just happened to be looking at the engine temp. Opened the engine hatch and there was yellow fluid dripping out the lid of the coolant container. Noticed while waiting for the engine to cool that the battery was reading low voltage (7.5V... no warning thrown, just observed in the vitals). Waited till it cooled down a bit, then tried to restart. System attempted a couple of reboots then crapped out. We turned the battery bank off, then started with both batteries... boat started no problem, and engine temp immediately started dropping back to normal.
Anyone experience anything like this? Brand new boat. A tech came out and replaced battery #2, which was the bad one. But it doesn't seem trying to run the boat on a bad battery would impact the ability of the engine to cool itself. They thought maybe we sucked a plastic bag or something over the intake... this is behind our house, we do a lot of boating, swimming, paddling etc and I never see this type of debris. Wondering if anyone's seen anything like this happen, and what the cause was.
