Removing 2013 G23 Graphics - How's it Look Underneath?

Hey guys,

I just upgraded from an 04 SAN210 to a beautiful 2013 G23 and was considering removing the decals and just leaving the two-tone gel underneath with the lettering. Before I remove it I was trying to find a closeup of what the gel separation between the two colors looks like underneath the decals and whether or not it looks like the new G23s but couldn't find any closeup pictures. Seen a few pics of the graphics removed but they were on the water or just far away in general. I like the look of it though.

Anyone have pics of their 2013 G23 with the graphics removed and can comment on the chevron two-tone gel line underneath it? The white star graphic also is gray in the front. The chevron in the front is the graphic, not the underlying gel. So the graphic is what's creating the chevron. Just want to make sure that the gel line underneath is perfect enough to pull the graphics off. Likely is but haven't seen any closeups!

I'd absolutely pull the graphics. If you need to (or need someone to do it for you) wet sand and polish-then so be it. Granted, I'm almost 54 (so take that at face value), but I hate any kind of stickers on my boat... I "de-sticker" mine inside and outside at delivery. I'm usually forced to leave one or two inside on pads, but that is it...

Well, for one thing, that's not a 2013 graphic, so someone has already updated it to 2014+. It should be easy to remove, and they do come out looking very clean without the graphic.

Are you sure that isn't a 2014?

Thanks guys. RDT-G23 I'm assuming I'm going to have to do some treatment with some compound/polish once it's removed. But I haven't heard of anyone wetsanding underneath the graphics. You think that's necessary?

NautiqueJeff the MSO says Model Year: 2013 with a Mfg date of 9/2012. Maybe the previous owner updated it.. Not sure..

A part from wet sanding, heat gun/hair dryer, cleaner.. any recommended products I should bring when I go to pull it off? Seemed pretty easy to pull. I know this has been covered 1million times..

I don’t think you will need to wet sand from what I can ascertain from the picture. The boat exterior doesn’t seem to have been sitting in the sun/oxidized a bunch. A random orbital and appropriate (which are myriad) polish/compound-then wax will likely suffice. I’d definitely try a hair dryer first, maybe a couple-two people working it-to get it to pull nicely. Stay away from the heat gun unless you have used one a good bit. I don’t think you need it here.

They make rubber wheels for power drills specifically to remove decals. Cheap on amazon, etc. 3m also makes a very good adhesive remover. I'd use a mechanical buffer (my go to if I don't need rotary power is a Rupes Mille gear-driven orbital) to compound and/or polish the boat afterwords before sealing or waxing just because.

Be careful with those rubber wheels. Many of them specifically say they are not for use on fiberglass/gelcoat.

A Rupes 3.5 random orbital would be very good with the proper agent to clean up after the removal (as mentioned above). I keep one (with many different cutting and polishing compounds) in my closet at the lake-in the event my baby gets smudged...

You'll probably have residual glue left on the hull from the decal. In the past I've used Goo Gone, Acetone (use rubber gloves if you go this route), WD40 and good old gasoline with varying success. Once it's off you can see what you have and determine a plan to move forward from there. The general rule when doing any correction is to use the least abrasive solution possible to achieve the desired results. This typically would involve starting with a cleaner wax and moving through polishing compounds, rubbing compounds the to wet sanding test with grits starting above 1200 and working down to about 800. If you don't know what you're doing with wet sanding you may be better off paying a detail shop to do the work for you.

On the other hand you may not have to do anything. Go slow and figure it out once you have the decal and glue off the boat.

Will to. Thanks TNRIDER for the pics! Looks great. Mine isn't the solid color to the front like yours so I'm wondering what the gel coat color line looks like underneath my graphics.

Thinking about purchasing a wet-sanding 'kit' just to have on hand for this, and just for the future in general for any issues I might have. Any suggestions on what to purchase? I have the orbital and polishing equipment just not the more abrasive stuff to take off light scratches and docking rash.

800 through 2000 wet sand paper, Dawn dish soap, a bucket, some warm water and lots of time.
