G23 wave out of the box

I've had my 2019 G23 for a year after a few years with a 23LSV. The G23 is a much better boat in almost every respect. To be fair, the G23 was twice the price of the 23LSV. One area that isn't so great is the stock G23 wave for surf beginners. At factory settings (0/5, full and 11.2) the wave is short and steep. For a novice it's just not easy. The 23LSV was much more mellow. For more experienced riders, the G23 wave is good and the 23LSV I was weighting with huge amounts of lead.

So there are threads on here about how to setup a G23 wave. Most of them state large amounts of lead (250-500) in the nose, 200 in the port side (prop rotation), some behind the diver and more across under the observer, full ballast and 0/3 and 11.5pm or so. This is my setup now and by dropping the full ballast, I can get the wave less steep and longer for novices. Then at full ballast, its better for the more experienced riders.

But since so many people are adding lead, and not running 'factory' settings, it makes me wonder why Nautique haven't addressed it. Is it not possible from an engineering POV to put ballast in the nose? Why is factory 0/5 and 11.2 and there is no 'surf beginner' setting like there is for wake? If everyone says put 200 in the port locker to counter prop rotation, why not bake that into the base weight of the boat, or in the ballast settings?

    Thoughts?

OK, so I've surfed a BUNCH of G23s. A 2013, and now three different 2019s. Some with no extra ballast, one with a little bit and one with a LOT of extra ballast. Surfed two different ones in the last 2 days, even.

Overall: They ALL surf steep. And big. None are what I would consider a long wake. Now I'm saying that because I surf a 230 which doesn't create a huge wake, but it is plenty long. That's it's claim to fame. The long wake with loads of push.

It does help some to put a couple of people up front and run the NCRS at 0 or 1 to push the bow down. This will lengthen it some. I doubt you'll get the more mellow wake that's better for beginners. They're just going to have to deal with it. With some time and practice, they'll get used to it.

Keep in mind that NCRS and speed control the wave length. Set full ballast, NSS 0, NCRS 2 or 3, speed 11.5 and you will have a much longer wave than the settings you describe.

Drop weight for beginner flatter long wave. Have been going 40% front, 30% back, 0, 0-3 ncrs for this purpose. We even tried out 0 ballast and it works.

Thanks everyone. I wonder why Nautique don't have a 'surf novice setting'. I created it and it is much better.
