I am a bit confused as to the v- drive location and where to add oil. The book illustrates the v- drive but not in relation to the entire motor. the v- drive is not separate from the transmission correct? it takes straight 30 wt oil. i have attached photos of what i think is the v- drive under the accessory seat fore of the motor. Please confirm. ty

That’s it. You check the level and add oil (or suck it out) through the dipstick hole. It’s the tube on the right with a cap.

That is the V-drive as stated above. FYI, behind the v-drive is the transmission.... the 2 are separate and both have oil, so make sure you are putting the right oil in the right place. Depending on the model is what determines the type of oil, many of the transmissions then used the DEX III. Make sure you look in the manual cause they have some different methods for properly checking the oil levels. Some you check while cold... some have to be checked warm and after shifting from forward/reverse. Too little oil can obviously cause issues but too full can also make problems since if you have too much oil, it can get air bubbles in gear and then not lubricate.
I would also suggest making sure you do not have any leaks, maybe put some paper towels down there to see if any drips, etc.
Check existing oil condition too since If too much water gets in the bilge, there is a vent that can allow water into the system. If that happens you want to be on top of flushing & replacing asap or it will corrode the inside.

I’m very interested in this. I own a 2006 SANTE with the vdrive too and I have only known the boat to have vdrive oil (sae 30) and the standard engine oil. Where can I check this other oil?

The dipstick for the transmission, which is between the v drive and the engine, is accessed through the engine hatch. Get your flashlight and kneel on the center cushion, raise the hatch and look down the starboard side of the transmission adjacent to the raw water intake. There is a dipstick there. Looks like a thick wire with a loop on the end. Might be hidden by some wiring and flex conduit. Put your finger in the loop and rotate slightly, gently back and forth to loosen the rubber plug to metal tube contact. Then pull it out. It contains the pinkish Dexron transmission fluid. Refer to your service manual for exact type.
My boat has the ZR6 engine so I hope your v drive and trans is the same set up if you have the standard engine. I believe it is.

I dont know of any sealed transmissions unless they just mean a trans has no vent in it that will allow water inside if bilge gets too high. The only thing close that I am aware of are the Power Plus transmissions, they have a square headed plug that screws in, instead of the typical dipstick and they do not have vents (so in essence are "sealed").... they use a synthetic fluid in them that is called "maintainance free", so maybe that is what they meant or where thinking of in that post you referred too. It isnt truly maintainance free tho since you are supposed to replace that trans fluid every 5yrs or 500hrs.

You and he agree on the square-headed plug that goes in on these "maint free" transmissions. So now I need to know if I have one of these and then next to figure out if it's good for life or every 500 hours. Do you have a link anywhere showing it should be changed? Thanks!
