How much oil does a '14 SAN230 w/ ZR409 engine take? Also, extracting advice.

How much oil does a '14 SAN230 w/ ZR409 engine take? I have been looking on the forum, and I am sure it's been discussed, but just can't seem to find it.

    Thanks for the help!

Also, I have the Mityvac 7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus, and I hear that inserting into the dip stick is a bad idea...do I use the tube off the engine and tape it?

I have a 2014 ZR409.... Yes, connect the extractor to the drain line tube coming off the engine (FYI... you can easily buy a fitting that will screw on the engine drain hose with 1/4" nipple on the end for your extractor hose. (FYI... you can download your owners manual from this forum under the manuals tab at the top of the page.... just remember that the original manual will not tell you the correct oil weights since per the July 2019 PCM TSB.... you should be using a DEXOS 2 oil in 5w-30 NOT the 15w-40 that was recommended for a long time. I personally prefer Penzoil Ultra Platinum or Mobile 1.

Its best to extract the engine oil if its been warmed up... it goes faster and will also remove any debris floating around, otherwise the debris may settle and will not drain with the oil. So I drain everything and then I place a few grocery bags with some paper towels inside under the oil filter and then carefully remove it (1 gallon ziplock bag also works good), the point is preventing the mess that can happen removing that oil filter.
After I clean up everything, (tho this is a step that does not necessarily have to be done) I prefer to the pour new oil into my new oil filter till its approx 80-85% full, then re-install the oil filter.

I personally put 4 quarts into the engine oil (including the filter oil you poured in)... the owners manual will also tell you to START with 4 quarts.... then I start up the engine and let it run to circulate and then after letting it settle will check the dipstick and adjust from there. For mine, 4.5 quarts total seems to be the sweet spot for me. Note that the manual says engine oil level should be checked while boat is "at rest" in the water with zero ballast. So if its on a trailer it may read different that how it would floating in the water at rest.

This is great and thank you so much! I have 5 gallons of Rotella Full Synthetic 5w 30. I also see that the dealer put in a Napa filter. I have a new Mobil M1-301A.

Any chance you know what size the threaded end on the oil hose from the engine is? I can get the right size for the other end for the tube on the extractor, but I have not clue what I would need for the oil tube size.

Thank you again for all the detailed information that I re-read and saw you answered it

I cant remember if its 3/8" or 1/2"... I want to say its 1/2". Its definately one of those 2. I am not at home today to check the boat. The oil drain hose is a male threaded and has a female threaded cap on it which is what you are looking for. I took my cap to Lowes with me and matched it up to a fitting so I didn't have to guess but you could buy 1 of each and then return the one that is not correct.
