    Gateway box cover

So in my rear compartment where the gateway box is, its perfectly in the way of my 750 ballast bags filling. The cover on those gateway boxes is also super cheap and flimsy plastic and I always have a hard time getting the little screws to hold the darn thing in place. My fat sac in there completely bent up one corner of it and even "tore" the plastic. Has anyone made or fabbed anything to cover this better? I was thinking about making something out of wood. Where is your gateway mounted? Mine is an 03 and mounted high on the transom right behind the muffler. No way the sacs could ever make contact with it. I would suggest relocating your gateway before making a cover.

good call, I’ll get a pic next time I’m at the boat which will be 2 weeks. my Gateway is mounted on the outside starboard wall of the storage compartment. So, basically against the inside of the hull on Starboard side. If anyone has a pic of theirs in the meantime I’d be curious if you even have this flimsy black cover like mine has. Also, I think it would be hard to relocate with the amount of wires and trying to have slack enoughbjn them to move it.

Here you go. Sits just above the factory ballast tanks.

Yeah, that's not good. Wonder who was the genius that came up with that location for the electronics. Hmmm let me see.... where's the wet-est part of the boat where people are likely to store wet items, yeah that's where we'll put all the electronics.

Water/moisture don't mix well with electronics or wiring Speaking of which, your wiring is a mess. If it were mine I'd start with cleaning up and securing the wiring then look into building another divider between the boxes and where the bag is going to sit. At a minimum I would see how much higher I could get the gateway box up and forward away from that area of the boat or relocate it to above the battery and as high up as possible.

One disappointing areas of my boat is where the battery is mounted. The battery cut out is molded into the ballast tank on the starboard side so installing piggyback bags was challenging. I've been looking into building a custom fiberglass cover to address this but I'd need to make a mold then create the part. It would be a great winter project but I have no place to do this type of work and it would be a big effort for a small part. I'm thinking about sourcing it out but I can just imagine what it would cost. You could do the same here but you'll be in the same situation as I am only it would appear you'll have 2 of them to make.

Maybe try building a wall or panel to protect the box from your bag? Yeah I agree that is a terrible location for the gateway box. I remember in my 06 they had the gateway up under the dash which is a better location only thing I didn’t like was they also mounted the front ballast pump right above it which I thought wasn’t a good combo either.
