    Advice needed

    Guys/Gals, I need some advise/input on my boat. '19GS22
    About to hit 100 hours.
Initial 25 hour service was done
Winterized at 50 hours with oil change, FCC filter change, and spin on fuel filter change.

Now I am about to hit 100 hours. Looking at the PCM manual and service intervals it states to change the oil and filter every 50 hours. Fine, I can do that. But the manual also states every 50 hours to change the FCC and the spin on filter, and once a year change the transmission fluid and inspect the v-drive fluid.
So the tranny and v-drive interval puts me at the 125 hour mark.

so here is where I need advice:
is it super critical that I have the Oil and filter, FCC filter, and spin on filters changed now, or can I wait until 125 hours? or even end of the season? I suspect we will put another 50 hours on the boat

also, the parts to fix the NSS and gelcoat issue are in. The gelcoat guy says he will need the boat for 1 week.
So, another big question is, do I take the boat out for 7-10 days and get the gelcoat repairs and the services done now, or do I wait until the end of the season?

it is the prime time of the short season. the lake the boat is on is a small lake with essentially a 1 way road to it. it is super painful to tow the boat down the road. so definitely not ideal time to be doing this

    Thanks for the opinions

It it was my boat, I'm changing the engine oil/filter right now, then leaving the fcc/fuel filters, transmission/v-drive fluid, and gelcoat repairs until winterization

Basic maintenance now. Prolonged after season.

The spin on filter is as easy to change as an oil filter. Why not change it too.

Here is what i do...myself so easy to do without having to take to dealer...

oil and oil filter every 50

spin on fuel filter every 100
          fcc every 200

the fcc change intervals are based on my personal experience looking at the fcc filter after a lot of years...

vdrive and tranny fluid i change every 300 years....

here is the thing....i DO NOT adjust my schedule for end of season or once a year language...

for example...if i have 5 hours, 20 hours, or 45 hours on my engine oil at end of the season, i leave it alone until next interval...and i sure has heck not going to bother changing something once a year when the manual says "every 300 hours or once a year"...

          But that's just me...

i will do engine and oil filter now for sure.

is there a good PCM equivalent oil filter that I can source locally?

            for the H6

See the oil change procedure in the sticky files. You can get Mobile-1 or Fram filters at Walmart.

Fram Filters are the worst by every independent testing site that's reviewed them. I would avoid them if at all possible. Mobil One, K&N, NAPA Gold, Motorcraft, Delco or Wix would all be better choices.

yes, i would never use Fram.

Should I make the 3 hour trip to the dealer to get a PCM filter, or just go to the auto parts store down the street and get a Mobil filter?
Obviously if I go to the dealer I could pick up a fuel filter as well

Any Ford 351 engine will cross reference to the correct oil filter. An 80s Bronco will probably be easiest to search. I think they only had the 351 engine option. As an aside, it’s fun to hate on Fram but oil filtration is rarely the cause of death for an engine. And when it is, it’s from neglect not subpar filtration. I don’t use Fram because Motorcraft and STP are just as cheap but I wouldn’t hesitate if that’s all that is available.

You're over thinking this. Mobil-1 filters are great. Change the engine oil/filter now, then during your winterization fluid changes/maintenance you can have the PCM parts ready if that makes you you feel better.

I wouldn't bother with a PCM filter. Get a Mobile 1 or WIX and you'll be fine.

Perhaps some Fram filters are of poor quality but the Xtended Guard have been tested to perform very well. Click image for larger version

I kind of feel the same way as above. and although it may be flawed my thinking is that if I am going to change the oil and filter both at 50 hours, that it hardly matters much on either as long as correct weight. Sometimes I get the good ol fram ph8a, sometimes i don't.

Agree. Fram or whatever at 50 hours is better than a late oil change...
