Out of water Water pump/impeller concern

the ramp was really noisy when we were trailering the other day and I was stupid and somehow didn’t realize the engine had not stopped when I thought it had. We pulled the boat up and around to the parking lot and probably 2-3 minutes elapsed before I noticed and shut it down.

Is my impeller toast? Am I being paranoid? It wasn’t in gear luckily but was on.

I think if it was really running for 2-3 minutes, I would go ahead and replace it. If it was just 30 seconds or so, I would say you're probably (maybe) OK, but 2-3 minutes with no water probably at least shortened the life of the impeller. Save yourself a headache and just replace it now.

Do I just need to order the impeller from nautique parts and swap it, or do I need some other parts as well. Nautique parts recommends a water strainer gasket and impeller lubricant as well.

All you need is the impeller. It'll come with a new O-ring.

You could remove and inspect it prior to replacing it. Also, I recently replaced mine and I used a small amount of dish soap as lubricant. The lubricant is only for installation purposes, not lubrication while in use, water takes care of that.

Also, a trick I learned was to use a tie wrap to maintain the orientation of the blades while installing it. Makes it a little easier.

Thanks! What’s the best tool/method to remove the impeller gently if I don’t have the impeller puller?

I believe I used my fingers, but had a pair of needle nose pliers on standby. If you can’t remove it by hand use the pliers inside the center of the impeller and open the pliers and pull to remove the impeller.
