    Gelcoat repair color

I have a small scratch in the gelcoat in our 2020 G23. Our boat is black metal flake. If I wanted to attempt the small gelcoat repair myself would I need black gel coat or clear gel coat repair product? I have this but its black and I'm not sure it's the right stuff.

Go to Spectrum Colors and purchase their gelcoat patch kit . I use it all the time and they have an exact match to any boat brand and/or color . A+++, I highly recommend

I used a kit from Nautiqueparts and it cured very well. They have a black listed from 14-19, 20 could likely be the same just not updated in the description yet. As posted above it's made by Spectrum.

The metal flake is the wild card here. I've never seen a flake patch paste and don't even know how someone would make that. Black would certainly work but I don't know if it would make it stand out more with the flake all around it. You didn't post a picture of the scratch so it's hard to tell what you're working with. If it's not through the gel coat I'd be tempted to try clear before going with black.....

No one has really made any comments on how to deal with the flake. Maybe just the pros can do it? My thought is you could just dump in a bunch of silver UV resistant glitter into the patch paste and it might be close enough. I'm not going to be the one to try it first. It would be funny to find out the huge upsell for the metal flake paint is just $5.00 of glitter lol.

That's because you don't. Flake gets suspended in the gel while shooting the gel into the mold. The amount of flake and how it settles will effect the color of the gel itself as well as how it reflects light. It's a bear to fix correctly but some on here have said there's people that do magic and can do it cheaply and in much smaller sections than I've heard needed for a seamless repair.

Thanks everyone. I was able to polish it to almost be unseeable. If I look closely I can tell it was there but no one else could. There is another unfortunate ding that needs repair in the fall so I will let the pros at the dealership handle both in the fall.
