Recently, I decided to do some maintenance on my 97 Sport Nautique Gt40. The Boat has been running good but I wanted to change a couple items to prevent any issues in the future, and because I enjoy my time tinkering around in the garage. I decided to change the impeller, hoses, and the thermostat. Like I said, no serious issues just wanted to replace them. When I opened the thermostat housing I found a surprise. In the port leading into the thermostat was a chunk of impeller stuck in the hole. I have owned this boat for a little over a year. I changed the impeller when I first purchased the boat and again today. Both impellers I removed were intact and not missing any pieces. So this piece has been in there for A WHILE. Although I'm happy that I caught this problem, it is concerning about the history of the motor to find a damaged impeller downstream. I did notice this weekend the temp gauge went up to 170°F briefly. I have never noticed this before and it returned to 160. I assumed the momentary increase in temp was do to running the boat extra hard on hot day. Also I noticed that the thermostat housing had been double gasketed. I thought I was wasting my money replacing a working thermostat, but now I'm very happy I replaced these items.
