Transmission Questions

I have an 06 SANTE with this transmission (see pics). I have replaced the “oil” each year which is an SAE-30. I check this level using the dipstick with the red arrow.
I was recently told in another thread that I may need to also change transmission oil (Dexron?). Then I read that 06 may be the year they switched to a sealed unit and I don’t need to worry about it. By looking at this, can anyone tell me what I’ve got?

Also, is this thing in green arrow something I’m supposed to check? I have no clearance to do so and it looks like they cut the fiberglass to fit it in.

That’s not a transmission. It’s a RV-26d v-drive. You’ll have a separate transmission though I don’t know which one in 2006. You have the engine which creates spin. You have the transmission which handles shifting into forward, reverse and neutral. You have the v-drive which takes that spin in and outputs it at a v angle so the engine can be mounted at the back of the boat. You’ll have a similar transmission plate somewhere. Posting that will get some answers on how to maintain it. It’s probably not a ssaled unit. I think only the v-drives were ever “lifetime” units.

Thanks Hal. I think I found the transmission now. Here’s the plate. So the question is do I need to be changing the oil in this?
I should add that I’ve had it serviced by the dealer each winter so if it’s supposed to be done or likely was - I’m just curious about it.

Yes. Instructions are right on the tag. 100 hours or yearly. Dexron III. Easiest way to drain the old fluid is right through the dipstick hole (look for a yellow dipstick) with a mityvac or something similar. Just be careful because it’s easy to get a plastic hose stuck in there.

Well It seems I’ve revealed my stupidity twice in the same thread! Thanks for the info. I’ll look for the dipstick.
