Just curious but I always empty the ballasts after a day out on the water (dashboards says 0 lbs weight and all ballasts empty). But the next day I go on the boat the boat says either the belly ballast or some of the Port or Stbr one are either full or half full. Is it because the fat sacks drain by gravity and take longer maybe ?

Your timers are off. I just run the pumps extra on the way in at the end of the day to make sure they are empty

More likely is that the pumps are not sealing well because the impellers are old. Try replacing the impellers in the pumps, and if that doesn't fix it, close the manual valves at night.

Then my guess would be what Jeff mentioned. Your impellers are starting to go bad. This is a prime example of water sneaking back in through the fill and empty line from the pump. Replace them and go from there. I would just do all 3. It’s a simple job. Save one of the old ones as a spare.


in the mean time you can close the manual brass ball valve on the through hull pickups. Once you’ve emptied.

My boat has new impellars. The issue we have is that I have to run the pumps extra after timer shuts them off to get them full. This means we need to run them extra to empty also.

From what you are describing I assume you have a piggyback system. The easiest thing to do is verify the bags are empty after draining. Are they? They should be. In a piggyback system, water is pumped in to the hard tank first. The vent of the hard tank is the intake for the bag. The vent of the bag is the vent out of the boat. When draining, the hard tank pulls the water out of the bag first. Since the bag collapses there’s a check valve to let air in after the bag is empty so the hard tank can empty. The bag should not be draining by gravity. If it is, your check valve is either opening too soon or not positioned properly. For position the check valve must be at the lowest point of the bag or it can’t drain everything. That could cause the symptoms you are seeing. If this was done using a kit like Wakemakers it’s possible the vent live is installed backwards.
