    2001 SAN rear locker shock.

One of the rear locker shocks in my 2001 SAN doesn't hold anymore and I want to replace it. It looks like the boat has SL36-60-1 shock installed (60lbs?) in both port and starboard lockers. I contacted nautiqueparts.com and they told me my boat uses 20 lbs shock. I can't imagine 60 lbs being the right pressure for the rear locker, shock like that should probably be used on the engine hatch. Couple of questions:

    * Do you guys think SL36-60-1 is the wrong type of shock for the rear locker?
    * What are some potential ramifications of using the wrong pressure shock (x3 stronger shock), can it break the hatch bracket? Should I replace the other side as well with a 20lbs shock?

    Thanks!

    Did you find anything out?

I'm in the same situstion. They told ne 60lbs. I bought it and it seems like way too much weight.

In doing a hatch conversion for a 95 super sport.

Who told you to go with 60 lbs, nautiqueparts.com? Either way, I got a good deal on Ebay and got a pair of 60 lbs shocks. I went ahead and had new 60 lbs shock installed and it seems to be working just fine, and now I have another spare which, I am sure, I will need soon.

So im having to install all shocks since I'm doing a conversion.

Which hatches did you install 60lb? Can you send a pic?

Yes. NP told me 60lbs for each side rear hatch. Two 80lbs for the middle rear. Seems a bit much.

The boat is in storage, so I can't take pictures now. What kind of pictures are you looking for, I might go boating this Sunday and can take pics? My boat has two 40# shocks on the engine hatch and 60# shock on each side hatch. I don't know if that's per spec, I bought my boat like that three years ago, and these shocks obviously were changed multiple times. I do think that 60# is too much for the side hatches, the reason why I am saying this is because the hatch pops up rather violently every time I open it - I have to hold the hatch with my hand to avoid it having slam and potentially bend the bracket. Now that we are talking about this, if they fit, I might swap engine shocks with side hatch shocks. I feel 40# on the sides and two 60# on the engine hatch will work well.

I've asked a few people but it all depends on the setup. Here is what mine look or will look like.

I found an old picture, bad quality, but this is all I have at this moment.

Thanks. And you would suggest 40lbs?

Have you tried contacting Miami Nautique? They seem to have these shocks in stock, I'd call and ask them. Otherwise, I think 40# would be a good fit.
