    Martinique Throttle Cable Question

While out on the lake our 1987 Martinique bow rider stalled when I gave it gas leaving an idle zone. Ultimately got towed in. Long story short it was turning over but not firing as if not getting fuel. After a couple of tests we determined that if given gas at the engine it would start and run smoothly. Therefore, i suspect that the throttle cable has come loose or broken between the throttle and engine compartment. Mechanics are backed up all over and would like to enjoy the rest of the season. Has anyone experienced this? Is it possible to fix ourselves? Is there something I’m missing? is there any other information that I could provide to make my questions easier to answer?

PS I’m new to the forum. Found it while searching the classifieds this summer. Hopefully I can pay this forward at some point. Thanks in advance!

You can visually inspect the throttle. Have one person move it and watch the cable at the carb. You may see the cable is fine but perhaps it’s binding or I’ve seen one of those tiny bolts work its way loose to the point the cable isn’t doing its job. I’ve also personally had the bolts holding the housing on my throttle control come loose and wreak havoc on my throttle. Changing the cable isn’t bad though. Find the right size and use the old cable to guide the new cable through. Also, have some fish tape handy just in case.

More than likely it one of these that wore through and broke at the control check there first
Cable connector for throttle or shift cable (MV2) used on most Nautiques control boxes
