    2000 Nautique dies

    Hello

I bought a 2000 Air Nautique with the 5.8 gt40 in June. Boat runs great only has around 450 hours on. Last weekend I was on the lake it was cruising and it just died started back up no problem. I was out on the lake this weekend on Saturday it did the same thing a couple times. Then Sunday it started out good then through the day it got worse it started at high speed then when I was headed to trailer it did it at idle speed. Does ever sound like it’s missing it just shuts down. It started to take a few mins to fire back up. First thought was electrical but I don’t this it is cause I keep power to everything in the boat but the engine. I’m thinking has something to do with the fuel system. Anyone have any ideas?

I would check your kill switch first. may have a fault there. It could be coming loose, or shorting out.

You can bypass it and see if it still gives you trouble.

I’ll put $10 on it being a fuel pump or fuel filter.

Mine is below the throttle on the side panel, just in front of the on/bilge switch.

Could also be a fuel pump as mentioned above.

I was thinking fuel pump or filter. Ok your talking the lanyard kill switch. Would it kill all the power or just the engine? Everything stays on except the engine when it dies all the gauges stereo.

First off the kill switch stops the fuel pumps. It does not shut down all power. I would certainly check it. Just as common are the fuel pump relays that are on top of the engine. They are square in shape approx 2"x1.5". They are common to go out and are inexpensive. NAPA can match numbers on relays (there are 2 of them)

Does it have Pro Tech ignition?

I’m going to start with the kill switch and the relay. Thanks for the advise.

I’m not sure it does. It’s got a keyless keypad. The code plus start stop honk and blower.

ProTec disappeared Sometime around 1995/1996. Since you have a GT-40 you can rule out ProTec.
