2004 model year / faria integreted depth finder / rarely provides depth

The depth finder in my 206 is integrated into the Faria gauge set - display is in the speedometer gauge LCD window.

The unit rarely finds the lake depth...it works OK when the depth is < 30 feet and the boat is moving slowly but after that it gets real flaky.

It would be nice if it worked better...not sure if there's anything I can do to improve it. Any suggestions?

I have the same gauges in my 2005, and it behaves the same. Not sure if it's the culprit, but my plan is to add a new transducer to my list of winter projects

Helpful. Have you IDed a source / part number for a new transducer?

Edit: Looks like you can get the transducer on Nautique Parts. I guess the question is ... would a new transducer help?
Edit 2: Sent a question to the Nautique parts guys asking if they had any insight.

Generally would be with you on this...however been running in some new lakes this season...ones with shoals and outcroppings so a workable depth finder has become a more important safety item.

Here's the response from NP - not completely surprising.

I think I'll try to find a way to add a modern unit and discretely mount the secondary display and add in a glue in puck.

Honestly, these depth finders are not very high powered. What happens in deep water with speed is by the time the signal bounces off the bottom and gets back the boat has passed that spot and does not get a good reading. Also water conditions such as chop, temp, etc can play a role in its reading too. I'm afraid you would get the same reading if you were to replace components.
