I have a closed cooled ZR4. Pretty simple to winterize. Remove three quick connect hoses and let them drain, remove impeller, remove raw water strainer. What about the dripless packing gland? That has a hose that runs from the top of the heat exchanger down to the packing gland. Will the water drain out of the packing gland? If it doesn't "drip" without the pressure of the raw water pump, then that hose will stay full of water. The manual says nothing. Wondering if I should disconnect the hose at the packing gland.

I believe the water drains out on its own. I have never drained it and have never even thought to...
Give it a try...if its dry that will be the last time you have to check it.

Good point. That's kinda what the dealer said. I expected the dealer to know for sure, and they didn't.
One small clamp on the hose, so it shouldn't take long to know if my concern is valid, or if it is already empty. The boat has been on the trailer for two weeks, so that's plenty of time to drain out. I'll check it on Saturday.

I pulled off the water line to the dripless packing gland. I pulled the end on the heat exchanger as that was much easier than the connection by the packing gland. I blew into the hose and heard some water come out on the floor. There is some resistance, but you can definitely move some air through the unit with your lungs. I feel better knowing the line is empty.
I did notice another hose that has to have a fair bit of water in it. It's the one from the outlet of the strainer up to the raw water pump. Rather than mess with trying to get the hose off at one end, I'm going to stick the business end of my vacuum oil change unit through the strainer housing down into the hose. Then I can suck most of the water out. It won't get it all, but I'll feel better knowing the hose isn't almost completely full.

I sucked the water out of the strainer to raw water pump hose. I stuck the vacuum hose through the water pump housing. I got a decent amount of water out. It probably wouldn't harm anything to leave it in there, but Minnesota winters are cold and long. No need to chance it.
My draining procedure for next year will be this. 1. Remove the 3 drain hose quick connects and push the outlets as low as possible in the hull. 2. Remove strainer. 3. Remove packing gland hose from hear exchanger and blow it out. 4. Suck water out of hose from strainer to raw water pump. 5. Sponge up water from hull
