Surf exhaust: love it,hate it, meh?

I’m thinking of getting a surf exhaust pipe for my SA210. I’m wondering about your experience using them; Is there an impact on the wake? What about running the boat at speed for skiing or just touring around? Any issues with them coming off or failing(like this one FAE replacement?

    Any other thoughts?

I put on an FAE on my 2005 after last years group buy, and i have had 0 issues with it. It make the boat much quieter, and there is 0 exhaust smell. It even makes the exhaust smell way less when just sitting and idling.

In my experience it has not impacted the wake, or any performance what so ever. I have driven with 2 different props, and speeds up to 50 mph, and its still attached like the first day I put it on. FAE has you take measurements, and tell them what kind of platform and brackets you have so they can get you the best custom fit. It works out pretty well.

I have started to organize another group buy for those that didn't take advantage last year. https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...2019-group-buy is the link to it, and i will let everyone know when they get back to me with the coupon code.

no changes to the surf or wakeboard wake, it's easily one of the best upgrades you can do to an inboard.

I put a FAE on our 2012 210. Huge improvement in my opinion. Boat is much quieter. No changes to the wake or surf wave.

Just purchased a 2020 GS 22 but had a FAE on my 2017 21” Sanger XTZ. If its the through hull design you should have no problem with it coming off unless you tear it off. Talk to Larry at FAE they pickup the phone and you can work out any details your concerned about. We didn’t notice any effect on the sanger for the surf or sking with the FAE, I can tell you it is the best sound system upgrade you can do, and you will notice a difference in air quality behind the boat that part is for sure.

I am on my 7th boat with FAE. I would never own a boat without it. I still ski , no effects on wakeboard , surf or ski wakes. I am gonna jinx myself. But I have never had a single issue or one break loose. Noise reduction inside the boat is worth every penny alone , add in the fact you get a co reduction as well as exhaust noise in the face of Wakeboarders and surfers it’s a home run. It’s will also allow you near tower speakers easier.

It prolongs your day on the water and generally leaves people feeling less fatigued we’ve found when we used to do comparisons back when it was first starting off. People who sat in the corners of the back bench handling ropes and watching generally felt better overall with the noise and co reductions. While not exactly scientific case study it was noticeable to people who spent time on my FAE boat to a non FAE one. It’s definitely geared towards surfing with the most benefits being for that sport. But even if I don’t surf I’d still own it.

I have a FAE on my 2007 236. It is awesome. The noise reduction is great. I use to be much more tired and had a headache at the end of long boat days, but because the FAE addresses noise and CO2, those days are gone. It also eliminates the exhaust smell while surfing. It does what it claims to do. I have noticed a small amount of spray coming off it at ski speeds, but its so minimal that I dont worry about it or think that it affects the wake or performance. It is also very solid. I check the connection often but have never found it loose. I definetly recommend it.

I don’t currently have one but have ridden on plenty of boats with them installed. I’ve never noticed a downside. The wake seems fine. I’ve never heard of one falling off. On the upside, the boat is definitely quieter. As far as CO, wake9 did some testing and couldn’t find a difference when surfing with a pipe vs without one. Personally, I wouldn’t buy one out of fear of CO. I’ll probably get one eventually just for the cabin noise reduction.
