    V-Drive fluid change 2007 SAN 236 TE

First post, and hoping someone can explain my confusion, checking my V-Drive fluids and need to add more, everything in the manual tells me it’s Mobiltrans SHC 50 and the fluids are yellow so I believe this to be right. However, the top of the V-Drive very clearly says dexron iii. Can any one help me sleep at night that I put the right fluids in?!

I can add some pictures if it would help.

    Thanks!

Do you have pics? SHC 50 is the “lifetime” fluid used in the PCM v-drive. Do you have that or do you still have the Wolters unit in 2007? Are
you sure you’re not looking at the transmission?

Your boat has both a Vdrive and a transmission. They take vastly different fluids. The transmission has a yellow handled dipstick. It takes Dexron lll (Dex-Merc) red-colored transmission fluid. The Vdrive only has two square headed bolts sticking out at a 45* angle for access. It takes the yellow colored synthetic 50 wt fluid only available at dealer nowdays. It sounds like you mistook the transmission for the Vdrive. The owner's manual is downright misleading in regard to which unit it is refering to.

I read the manual about 10 times and still almost made this mistake on my boat when I first got it. H2O is absolutely correct. Be careful what you're looking at and which you're changing. Unless something has gone wrong you should only be dealing with the trans.

You guys are life savers, everything mad sense in the bot then the manual made me second guess what I was seeing. The plate I am seeing with dexron is the tranny. The manual makes it sound like I don’t have a tranny!

          thanks again!

Here are some pics for reference.
1st one is the v-drive (has the square head cause it supposed to be a 5yr fluid....this is the Mobiltrans).
2nd is the transmission with the DEXIII
            3rd pic shows them both

It can be confusing. A good way to remember is that the V-Drive is the last assembly in line. (It makes the V in V drive).
