T4 or T6 oil 343

So which is better for the 343ex. 09 216v with a 343ex. Iv read and read and read but no clear path to if I should use the full synthetic or conventional T4. Any help would be amazing.

I know in the 330 manual it specifically states not to use synthetic. Not sure about the 343

I use Mobil 1 15w50 full synthetic. Its been changed every 50 hours with a Motorcraft FL1A filter since 08. Boat has over 1200 hours now and still runs like a champ.

Ah fall..... The brisk mornings, the bright colors as the leaves change and of course the yearly discussion on oil as boaters prepare to do their yearly ritual of winterization and oil changes.

If you do a search I'm sure you'll find no less that a dozen in depth threads here on this topic. Bottom line is if you like your conventional oil you can keep it (sound familiar?) and sleep well at night knowing it'll do the job well for you while maintaining the recommendations per the manufacture. If you put any weight in the research and product testing by companies like Amsoil, Mobil, Shell, etc then you may see possible advantages to going with a full syn.If you're more the type that wants to stick to the letter of the manufacture's stated recommendations then you'll probably want to stay with a conventional oil per that stated spec.

I've personally been running Mobil One in my cars/trucks probably for 15 years now which includes some that by doing so would have been considered a use case that would have been not recommended or out of spec for that engine. Probably the one that comes to mind most was the junk design 5.4 three valve Triton in my 06 F150. These engines are notorious for cam phaser issues due to poor oiling. I started using 5-30 Mobil One in the engine from day one, owned it for 12 years and managed to get 105K on the engine without any issues while 2 of my friends experienced issues before 5 years and 75K. So did Mobile One save my engine over theirs with conventional oil? I'd like to think so but honestly I really couldn't say for sure but when you look at the vast number of failures on these engines odds should have been that I should have had issues as well and well I didn't.

So here I am with a 343 and my second oil change. I know what's recommended and this will be my second oil change using Rotella 15-40 T6 full syn along with a WIX XP oil filter that is designed for use with syn oil. I ran this same set up in my 07 MasterCraft X2 for at least 3 seasons with no issues and I expect to have the same experience with this engine. To be honest I do think the recommended conventional oil would be absolutely fine in this engine but with that said I do like doing that little bit extra for my baby and will go with this set up.

I contacted Mobil and asked what would be the best oil in a boat . They said the 15w50 has all the additives for both roller and flat tappet motors. I have been using the 5w30 and 10w30 in my cars since 1974 . I have never had an engine problem so I never switched.

From what I've read here, the T6 is the closest you can get to the PCM recommendation. I plan to use a standard WIX filter on mine. The XP is for extended mileage and doesn't filter as well.

It was based on a filtration tests at Bob is the oil guy. Not sure if it matters on the filtration. I feel that the 50 hour oil change is pretty short anyway.

I agree. I went with it mainly due to the statement about being designed for synthetic oil. For my 30 - 40 hours a year I'm sure I'm fine with either but the extra buck for the XP is fine with me too.
