Engine hours gauge (2003 216 Air)

On the left hand side of the hours counter, there is a rectangle with two blacked out facing arrows, sometimes they are steady, sometimes they flash.

Can anybody put me out of my misery and tell me what these are?

Are you talking about the digital display on the tach? If you rotate through the hour meter options by pressing "M" you should get your "hours left" guage, and then a digital readout of all the other guages (volts, temp, oil pressure). The only thing I can think of you getting is on the digital readout of the speedo, to the right. One of the options there tells you which side the speedo is reading from, port or sarboard. I dont know how they work exactly, but I know if one is clogged, you might see two X's on that side of the readout.. hope that helps...
