    Steering Cable on 2000 SN

I realize there is a post with photos however my gas tank is flat on the floor not tucked up in the backend like the 1998, My tech is telling me he had to remove the gas tank in order to replace the steering cable.
He is really good, but He did say he has not done this on a 2000 before, does that tank actually have to be removed?

    Thank you
    Carl

Hey Cwurf, I just removed mine because it was corroded and junk. I had the fuel tank out because I needed to drain and clean it (boat sat for five years) which did make getting to the rear mount much easier. I will definitely try to install a new cable without removing the tank again. Its somewhat of a pain in the ***. Question for you: Where did you source your new steering cable? I need a new one as well. Thanks and good luck!

I have done it on my 2000 ski. I didn't remove it but I had to detach the hold downs and the fill and vent tubes so I could slide it forward to access the rudder and cable end. It's a pain because I have to do it every year to grease my rudder. Sometimes twice ( like this year) because I put over 100 hrs in it.
i sourced my cable from Nautique parts.

Hi Kasey, I am in Edmonton and just got it through the local dealer 350 CDN dollars or so, its 19.5 ft don't get a 19 too short.
How is the skiing in Hawaii? is it hard to find some flat water?

I think it makes the handling so smooth. New cable is 90% but grease on the rudder makes it drive perfect.

Hey Cwurf, yes we are very limited to flat water out here for every day use. There is the Keehi Lagoon which was dredged a long time ago for sea plane landings, and also the Kaneohe Bay sand bar.
