95 Nautique Teleflex steering cable part number

Hello gang,

I’m trying to find the part number for a teleflex steering cable to replace mine on a 1995 Ski Nautique. I am not near the boat and cannot pull any part numbers. I do know the bolt pattern on the rack is Original at 1 3/8” on short side and 2 1/8” on the long side.

Again, I am trying to find the actual Teleflex part number.

Pretty sure the Teleflex part number is S2205. I see that part number on several different sites for that cable.

Can you link to where you're seeing that? I'm not near the boat, so when I order I want to make sure I get it right. Discount Inboard Marine is telling me I need to upgrade the helm rack and the cable whereas it seems Nautique Parts seems to show I can order just the cable.

That number shows on NautiqueParts as well as Miami Nautiques.

You don't need to replace the helm.

If you replace the helm, you'd need a different cable (90590).

My guess is that DIM may not have the S2205 in stock, but they do have the 90590, and want to sell it to you, but that would require replacing the helm.

If there are any issues getting the 2205 cable, here is a different route to go. Teleflex is now Seastar. The Seastar cable, compatible with your helm was SSC 12419 or SSC 12420 (the 19 or 20 being the length) That cable is now obsolete and NLA from seastar (Nautique parts may still have the teleflex version (2205) around and hence its availability) The new replacement part is SSC 15419 or 15420. This cable however has the new bolt pattern. You would have to update the helm as well. The 2205 cable is $199. The SSC154xx cable is $149 and the new helm is $77 so for $30 more you get the updated system. The 154 cable is reportedly much better performancewise than the 124xx/2205 cable. I am in the middle of this myself right now and going with the new set up. Both parts available from MarinePartsSource. The helm is part SH91610P.

Do you know, when replacing the helm, do I just need the helm itself, or is an entire new tilt kit needed? Looks like the entire tilt kit is $175 but if the new helm alone will fit my existing tilt assembly, I’m onboard with following your route.

Not sure if you got to MPS website to check out the part yet, but this is it. I havent done the swap yet. Through this whole thing I am going on advice I got from someone else, but he is very knowledgeable about such things and I trust his info. According to him and info on this listing, it should go right into the existing tilt wheel assembly. This it the helm I referred to. I just ordered the two parts this afternoon. If you are in no mad rush, I will get the swap done, hopefully in the next couple weeks and let you know how it goes.

I did this a few years ago Larry on my 95 and yes you "only" have to replace the helm part you listed.If I remember right you do have to take the helm completely apart though to do the job. One thing to be careful of is where the rack sits on that helm part. Does the rack sit on top of that part or hang below it,take pictures before you disassemble the old. I had everything out of the boat which on a V drive was alot. My lift broke in the middle of all this so I had to get everything back in to get the boat to a ramp. It's a 1/2 mile to the ramp by boat,1 1/2 by car. Everyone takes off for the ramp, I shove off with the boat. In my haste I had a 50/50 chance to get it right and missed- the boat steered backwards. Docking was a pain but I made it.
I always used to replace the support tube seal when changing cables but SeaStar is now called Dometic and seemed to have changed all their part numbers. Their web site,pardon me, sucks. The old seal number is TFX SA 37868P

Kyfooter I did the swap this weekend. Pretty straight forward. Up until Gary said above, that you still have to dismantle the "outer" helm to swap in the new "inner" helm, I had no idea what it was going to take to make the switch. You pretty much have to disassemble the outer helm. Wheel off, boot off, trim ring off. Undo the two allen screws in the universal joint to free the outer helm from the inner helm. (the one closest to you just needs to be loosened. The other is the pin through the shaft, so that comes out all the way) Remove two large Philips screws to remove tilt mechanism from mounting plate. That exposes the two bolt heads holding the inner helm in place. At that point, swap out the part and reassemble. That took the longest time. The cable swap went quickly and easily. My new set up is about a billion times smoother/easier than the old.

Hi Guys,

Two steering cable part numbers for the new style were mentioned above.

SSC 15419
SSC 15420

I'm guessing this is a 19 ft and 20 ft option.

The original part number was S2205 and to my knowledge is 19.5ft.

If I swap to the new steering cable and helm ( SeaStar l: SH91610P), do you know which steering cable I'll need? The 19ft or 20ft? Which did you all end up getting?

Found this. Might be helpful to this conversation. Looks like it's possible the SSC part number has an upgrade to SSCX which I believe is the same thing but with a better protectant sleeve. See image.
