    Sounder on my SN

I’m not sure if this is a technical or a gear related question. Not sure where to post.
My previous boat was a fish and ski boat. I had purchased a fish finder with great underwater imaging. I could see stumps, structures, water temperature, depth, etc, but I sold the boat before installing it. Should I get rid of it or have it installed on my SN. I’m not doing any fishing but I was wondering if it’s something good to have installed.

I don't think many put fish finders in their ski boats, but doesn't mean you can't. I would make sure you can do it in a manner that it can be removed without knowing it was there when you go to sell. Nice thing about owning your boat, is you can do whatever you want to it. I would just make sure I didn't hurt the resale value.

I don't see much advantage unless your SN doesn't have a sonar on it already (or unless you plan to fish out of it), but it's your boat, so do as you please. Finding a location to mount without it being too obtrusive might be challenging, depending upon size, and you'll likely have to drill into your transom for the transducer.

As stated above it's your boat to do with as you please.

That said resale is another thing entirely as is how a poorly installed or piece of gear that looks out of place will effect resale. Anyone looking for an inboard ski boat will see a fish finder a real turn off. It would be a "Wally badge" to anyone close to a purest. My advise would be don't install it. If you need a fish finder on a tournament ski boat I would recommend a portable unit or an installation that doesn't molest the boat in any way.

Again, what you do with your boat is up to you. The only one that has to like it is you, at least until you go to sell it.

Mine came with a depth and temp sonar, I was just thinking that it would be beneficial to see any stumps or anything that might damage the prop or rudder.

Most fish finders are primarily downward looking but in a cone shape. They are also typically mounted midships in an inboard or near the stern in a I/O / vDrive so they would provide very little if any warning in any before hitting anything. By the time you see the stump you'll have hit it.

I think you might be right.
Doggone it I spent almost $500 on that fish finder and never even took it out of the box. But I love my new boat though
