    GT-40 engine problem

    Hi,

    I own a 1996 SN with a 5.8 GT-40 with a little more than 1000 hrs.
It has been running over 5000 rpm without any prblem until recently.
The rpm drops firmly, and will not go up anymore no matter what. But when I pull the control to neutral, the engine is idling perfectly.
It's running ok up to about 4000-4500 rpms for about 15 mins, then the problem occurs.
I've had the engine serviced: new oil, new filters (including fuel filter), new impellor, new rotor and cap, but no change in behaviour.

    Any ideas are welcome.

    Thanks,

    Cor

    RE: GT-40 engine problem

The GT-40 manual is great, I would recommend downloading and printing it. I kept mine in a binder on a shelf in the garage:

Check the troubleshooting sections. Taking a guess I might think the fuel pump could be the culprit, but that's a guess. Take the fuel pressure at the rail before you buy a new fuel pump. They sell inexpensive pressure gauges on e-bay if you don't have one already. If your service center cannot read the engine diagnostic codes and fuel pressure I would suggest you find a shop with greater technical capabilities.

      Thanks Mike,

downloaded the manual and checked the troubleshooting areas. Guess I have to go to a dealer to solve the issue, I don't have the equipment to read out the engine.

      Thanks for the tips.

What is the maximum RPMS the engine will reach. It could be as simple as going into limp mode via a faulty oil pressure or water temp switch.
