95 Super Sport GT40 no start

Hey All,

I put the boat in the water Saturday and it wouldn't start...starter engages and turns, has a new battery as well. Probably a month before i ran it from my driveway for the 1st time this year...normally, for a 1st start it kicks over almost instantly because of fuel injection, but it took awhile this time (I even had to put a battery charger on it to recharge a bit before starting)...once it did start it ran normal. I put a mulitmeter on batt and it showed that it was charging once started. Then I bought a new battery to replace a 2nd battery that was bad. Kicked it over to make sure it ran (it did and I shut off immediately. So a few days later I put in water on Saturday and tried to start..no go (starter does turn). I removed lanyard and shorted the safety switch wires to bypass the switch, still no start. I don't hear the pump prime when I put it in on position just before start... that's where I'm at now. In a day or so I'm going to put a multimeter on fuel pump to see if it's getting any juice when in on or start position... anything else I should check? I was looking for some sort of fuse box on it but couldn't find one.. any help is much appreciated.. Fred

Sounds like it is almost certainly the fuel pump. You should definitely hear it prime when you turn the key to the on position. Common issue.

Before you throw a pump at it, try swapping the relays around at the back of the engine. They are known to fail, and one of them controls the fuel pump.

Jeff has a good suggestion. The pump relays are known to quit. I carry an extra pair in the glove box...just in case. If not a relay, then my guess is the low pressure pump. The FCC has an internal high pressure pump and a 2-3 inch fuel line that is known to crack and cause problems. Try looking over at the CorrectCraftFan.com site. There are several threads on the GT-40, relays, high pressure and low pressure fuel pumps.

The 95 model year doesn’t have an FCC and the high pressure pump is no longer available. ccfan will still have you covered though on what replacement pump to get and adapters if the high pressure pump does end up being the culprit. And to save you from one particular rabbit hole, the FCC conversion kit won’t work on a v-drive without fabbing a bracket and making some custom fuel lines. But like the others have said, start with the relays.

Could be one of the circuit breakers tripped or bad on the computer base plate on the engine. my 98 has three. I think the 15 amp runs the pumps. I had to replace all three of mine due to corrosion.

I have 3 as well...how do you know if they've tripped...i've pushed all 3 to make sure it can't be pushed down further...

check to make sure they are all 3 getting power. I actually ran 10 ga jumpers from the 60 amp to the smaller amperage breakers. works fine now. my boat had sunk before I acquired it and I think the power source to the lower breakers was compromised.
