    Steering Assist Intermittent??

We have a new 2021 G23. We've put 12 hours on it, mostly wearing wetsuits! I have one issue that is confusing me: the steering assist works most of the time, but when ballasted for surfing, it works about 60% of the time. (Yes, under 4 mph, in gear, steering assist on high). When it chooses not to work, neither the manual or the automatic modes function. 5 minutes later it works again. I cannot figure it out. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks!

There's only 4 hours on our new boat so not enough to say, but ours has worked perfectly thus far... We keep it on low auto unless docking then we put it on manual because we need more practice to learn which way it will send the bow in reverse.

I have seen intermittent issues with Steering Assist that were due to the rudder sensor adjustment. There is a rudder sensor that provides feedback to Steering Assist. When the rudder is centered, steering assist will not operate. Once the rudder is turned a certain amount steering assist is activated (assuming below 4 MPH). To determine if your rudder sensor needs adjusting, when steering assist should operate but does not, turn the steering wheel the exact opposite direction to see if steering assist begins to function. If it does you need to center your rudder sensor. Call your dealer as they should do this under warranty. All the best.

I should have mentioned that this is for when steering assist is not operating correctly in auto mode. You would have another problem if steering assist were not operating in manual mode.

I had the same issue with my 20 G23. They replaced a sensor motor on it I think? I honestly can’t recall what it was called. It drove me crazy though as it would work sometimes and then not work!!? Also, my sensor needed adjusting as it wasn’t centered as Gregg spoke about. Take it into the dealer and they will get u fixed up I’m sure.

I have the same issue on my ‘21 G25. After extensive use, pivoting to pick up or position a rider, it stops working. Starts working again a few minutes later. This is in either manual or auto mode. I assumed that it was a safety feature to prevent the electric motor from over heating. Did you get yours fixed? If so, I guess my assumption was wrong.

After extensive diagnostics at the dealer, the conclusion was that it was the internal thermal protection (as you had initially surmised) that was causing it to stop working. Clearly something is under specified as ours only stops working when the boat is ballasted and you actually need the assistance to get it positioned correctly. This is only 1 of several issues we've experienced, leading to a general sense of dissatisfaction with our purchase. We love the interior comfort and appearance but our older Nautique ran more reliably.

Interesting. Ours is messing up again and manually turning left with the thruster works 50% of the time. Turning right works 10% of the time. Auto doesn’t work at all anymore. We have had several electrical issues with this thing that have never been fixed correctly.
