    stuffing box

Replacing the material in the stuffing box. Instead of getting rope out, I got an O ring. Should this ring be in there? Or did the previous owner think this should replace the rope?

The point of doing it with rope is you dont have to pull the coupler off of the shaft. It definitely looks like some sort of rubber, but the teflon coated rope may look like that after running. I'm assuming it isn't split? I would suggest to order the appropriate teflon coated rope, either 1/4" or 3/16" depending on the year and replace that and your rudder at the same time. Now is also a great time, and highly recommended, to check and/or do an alignment!
