SV211 glovebox and horn grill questions

    Two questions for SV211 owners:

    1. Are there ‘bumpers’ on the underside of your glovebox, to cushion it when it closes?

    2. Has anyone blocked off the horn grill? I removed my grill the other day to polish it and discovered that the PO blocked off the opening under the grill. Possibly to keep water off the back of the radio during a massive rain storm? I can hear the horn just fine, so I’m not sure the hole is absolutely necessary.

    Mine's in storage now, but...

    1) No. I replaced the strut on mine last year. It helped immensely. Here's the part: https://www.nautiqueparts.com/produc...tory-original/
It takes about 2 minutes to swap out.

    2) Perhaps it was done to muffle the sound a bit. That's my guess. I'll have to look at mine.

Thank you for the reply Ryan. I replaced that strut three years ago but the darn lid still acts like a guilotine when you close it. It definitely catches guests off guard

Yeah my glovebox is the the same, no bumpers. Could probably take off a finger. And it's open to the horn/electronics behind my grill.

I hear ya. Definitely not the greatest design!

I can’t fathom why CC felt the need to use such a heavy glove box lid without some sort of soft close mechanism.

Hey, I got mine out of storage. Looks like there are small, rubber bumpers (or were, at least) at the four corners of the lid. Maybe some silicone cabinet bumpers would help?

Trying to figure out why my glovebox won’t drain. I’ve shot compressed air thru the drain hole and there doesn’t seem to be any obstruction, but it still won’t drain. Can anyone take a look at the underside of their glove box and tell me if the drain has a 90 degree bend as it exits the glovebox? Also, what is the routing of the drain hose? The whole setup on mine looks OEM but doesn’t seem to be very effective at draining water. Perhaps the PO changed something?

The photos from MN Ryan of the inside of his glove box might shed some light on my drainage problem. In the second photo of his glove box, the drain is a fairly small white thing at the bottom left. Mine is different - I have a 1" thru hull fitting there instead, and the hose on the back of the fitting runs horizontally under the glove box before turning down into the bilge area. Perhaps the horizontal drainage tube is preventing gravity from doing its thing and draining the water? However, my boat is an '05 but MN Ryan's is an '07 - perhaps CC changed the glove box drain from year to year? Would love to see photos of other glove box drains and and get a description of how the drainage tube is routed. Geez, this seems so petty, but my glove box floods every time it rains, if the cover is off.

Here's a picture of my drain and the plumbing underneath it.
