    Prop for Southwind 20

Hello,I'm new to Correct Crafts and the forum.I have owned other inboard and outboard boats, but never a inboard ski boat.My family recently bought a 1981 Southwind 20 with the 255hp 351w and 1:1 velvet drive. For anyone not familiar, this has the deep vee hull.I understand this is not the true skiboat of the correct craft family, but we have alot of open water the can get rough.Weve had the boat out one time so far,500 lbs. people + 1/2 tank fuel.It has an OJ 13 x 13rh 4 blade. Has a few small dings but nothing terrible.I was able to turn 4200rpm wot. There is some vibration.I didn't have the Gps for mph,but compared to my other boats,it seemed like about 40+.There are many prop suggestions for nautiques, for instance the acme 540 and 542 cnc.The question is with the deep vee, would these props be suggested for my boat also.I would think this hull would need the lower pitch,of the two,or something else. With this prop it seemed to need more power to maintain a level plane than what I would of expected.I also dont know the correct Rpm the engine supposed to turn. The engine runs excellent.Boat weighs 2450 dry.I want a new prop for all around performance. Thanks for any help. southwind[/i]

You migh ask over at correctcraftfan.com too. There are a lot of owners of the older CCs over there who would probably have some good input. Infact, this has probably been discussed, search the forums over there I bet you'll find something.

With the numbers you give, I think a 13X13 4 blade is a good prop for that boat. I would take it off and send it back to Johnson and have it straightened and cupped. If you are going to weight it down for wake I would go down 2 inches to a 13X11. That will give you more pull and you'll lose about 4 MPH at the top end. I have a 14X10 RH I can loan you if you want to try it. The extra inch makes it run almost exactly like the 13X13. PM me if your interested.

Call ACME and ask them. They will have a far better rec than most here.
