    2000 SAN prop change questions

Last summer was our first with our new to us 2000 SAN (rad summer all weirdness aside). Found myself wanting in the prop dept when towing tubes with a full crew, or trying to get out of the hole with lotsa ballast, so Santa got us a 1578 for xmas. Getting things ready for this summer, went to replace the prop this weekend. Pulled the pin, removed the existing castle-nut (spun off by hand). The prop didn't even need the puller, it just slid right off. The key has a pin in it to hold it in place. I decided to re-use pinned key (no wobble in the new prop keyway), put the new prop on, and used my brand-new nyloc nut from wakemakers to snug up the prop. Got it all the way on (flexed the yellow plastic prop wrench), and the nyloc nut doesn't go far enough on to get a cotter pin through the shaft. So, I pulled the nyloc nut, left the existing pinned key, new prop, and re-used the existing castle-nut with a new cotter-pin. Am I good here? Is re-use of that castle-nut in-bounds, or would I be better off using the nyloc nut without a cotter-pin (seems ill-advised in my rookie estimation). As I'm writing this, I wonder if the problem was re-use of the pinned key, if I were to have used the new key (shorter, no pin) would the prop have gone further up the shaft and allowed the nyloc nut to go far enough to expose the cotter-pin hole? Here's a couple photos of where I ended - would much appreciate any thoughts...

I reused my castle nut every prop change. I put in a new cotter pin, but I would think you should be good to go.

The castle nut is meant to be reusable. Keep reusing it and change out the cotter pin. Older shafts can’t accommodate the nylock nut without drilling a new cotter pin hole.
