My 2000 Direct drive Air carpet is junk. Are there any kits available or do you have to go all upholstery shop? Thx

In that era of boat the carpet wasn't laser cut or anything like that. It was all cut-to-fit. It's impossible to replace every single square inch of carpet in that boat unless you separate the top deck from the hull. I replaced the carpet in my 99 Air. It's a matter of cutting the old carpet out, cleaning the fiberglass very thoroughly with Acetone and then gluing new carpet down.

I redid the carpet years ago in my Mastercraft. It can be done but it's a PITA. If you can get away with it, just do the bottom floor. The sides are tricky and as someone said were likely put in before the top deck was on the boat. Anything wrapped in carpet is a double PITA - seat bases, motor boxes, etc. I'd prolly suggest finding a shop if you need to do those bits and farm them out.
I think you can get matching Nautique carpet from C&M Marine.
When I did my carpet, I removed as many parts (motorboxes, seats, all that) as I could inside the boat and for areas I couldn't access (under the dash, etc) I razor cut a sharp line with a straight edge and butted the new carpet to it. As long as the carpet is close in color and you put the seams in less used areas, this will work well. Most of the areas you can't get to well are also in OK shape so it will look ok.
Spend time getting the old carpet glue out to get a smooth base. I think I used a palm sander and 60 grit paper. From there, I just rough cut the new pieces from the takeouts, applied glue and fine cut in all the edges. Lots of sand bags or other weights are really helpful to hold the new carpet down while the glue sets. A second pair of helper hands is good too.
My job came out decently and the boat looked 100x better. You had to look closely to see the seams and mismatches and they just weren't that big of deal.
Go for it - you'll love the outcome.Last edited by SilentSeven; 04-30-2021, 05:43 PM.2004 206 Air Nautique Limited - Black with Vapor Blue (family style)
