Power to blower issue

I have a 2000 Air Nautique. When I push the button on the dash for the blower it lights up green as it should, but I have no power at the plug to the blower as tested by a volt meter. Any suggestions on what might cause this or where to look for issues?

How about at the switch itself? Depending on how the switch is actually wired you could get a panel light and still not have power at the device. I would start by looking for a tripped breaker as this would be the easiest to fix then start probing the circuit from one side to the other until I found the open. Right now you know you don't have power to the blower, pull the panel and probe the switch. If you have power there you know you have an open between the switch and the blower. If no power at the switch you have a source power issue most likely at the breaker.At least this is the approach I would pursue.

Agreed. Check the breaker first because that's the easiest.

Are you sure the blower itself isn't bad? 22 years is a good life for a blower. It may not be a wiring issue.

I checked the breaker first and it is not tripped. The light on the dash wouldn’t light up if the was a problem up stream from the switch, such as the breaker, right? One thing I did notice is that the switch lights green with one push, but it takes exactly three more to turn off. I don’t remember it doing that before.

I've seen the light wired up to a separate circuit in the panel which means it would turn on even it the breaker was tripped. Is yours like this? No clue.

Could quite possibly be a bad switch which is why I recommended pulling the panel and getting a volt meter on the poles of the switch to verify that power is actually making across the switch. Switches go bad especially on 20 YO boats. Another thing you could do to verify the blower is run wires directly from the battery to the blower. If it spins you know it isn't the blower and you'll have one less place to focus on.

My money is on the switch or an open in the circuit.

Wait. You've hit on something there.

Are you sure you're not activating the HEATER switch? Your boat may not be equipped with a heater, so it may not do anything. The heater has four settings -- high, medium, low, and off, thus the three pushes to turn it off once you have the switch on.

On a 2000, the blower switch is on the keypad with the start button, not the accessory panel.

Ahhhh!!! That’s it! I disconnected/bypassed the heater when the heater core started leaking. I can’t believe I made that mistake! Man, do I feel dumb. If I push the correct button the blower works. I spent a lot of time trying to diagnose that.
