Blower Motor Woes

Blower motor quit working in boat (2007 236), no big deal. Check voltage a the Deutch connector and I am getting 12.38V when button is on. Ok, so blower motor is bad, order new one (Attwood 4" turbo). Wire everything back together and hit blower on keypad and nothing. Go back and check voltage at plug when off 0.33V and when on 12.38V. Hook motor back up and nothing. Then I send 12V from battery directly to blower motor outside the boat and it starts spinning.

So in the boat I have 12.38V to the blower motor, a good blower motor, but nothing when hooked together. Breaker under dash is not being tripped, do those go bad? If I am getting 12.38V all the way to the motor, doesnt that mean breaker is good?

After reading your post multiple times I couldn’t help but notice that you had good power to the motor but didn’t mention if you had a good ground

Measure directly on the blower ground and plus with switch on.
First with blower disconnected 12V ?
Than with blower connected.
If the voltage drops to less than 11 you have a bad connection somewhere.
Now move the minus of the voltmeter to a good ground like battery minus.
If voltage is 12 now your ground is bad if not you have a bad connection in the plus line.

Yall are correct. I put the old blower motor directly to battery this AM and turned on. With new motor disconnected I get 12.38V, with new motor connected I get 0.00V. Move the minus to the battery ground and I get 12.38V. So def a bad/broken ground.

Should I just run a new ground or try to trace the existing ground and find the break?

If the blower motor is the only thing not working, that means that you have isolated your ground issue to that particular circuit and you can give it a new ground wire but if that ground wire is shared with other circuits then I would definitely try to trace the wire from the blower connector to the ground source. I say this because if it’s a shared ground that means that other circuits are also not completed.
If I had a wiring diagram it would be easier to see if it’s a shared ground or not.

I would try to chase it down it most likely a bad connector somwhere.
You can use the resistance function (ohm) to find it.
Put one end on the blower ground and measure to ground should be less th as n 5 ohm and is most likely more.
Now leave the the meter on the blower connector and follow the wire.
Also you should be able to find a wiring diagram online.

Looks like it is ground to the “aft ground panel”

Anyone know where that is. I found the port and starboard one but no aft.

I would just reground it somewhere convenient, and then if other things act up later, try again to retrace the wire.

You could test all of the accessories and see if anything else doesn't work.

Seems like a lot of work for possibly no gain to trace it, assuming everything else is working.

Found it, it was in between rear seat and storage compartment. The one screw that was loose on the whole panel was the blower motor ground. Tightened it down and back in business. Thanks ya'll, the help was much appreciated!

Hey, I know this is old, but how did you access the ground buss? can it be accessed through the storage under the seat or from the large storage with the engine hatch up? If you have a picture of the location that would be great. Trying to map out my plan of attack for troubleshooting before I go get the boat from storage to chase down my blower issue.
