Alright so I bought a 2016 SAN 210 with a lot of hours on it (900). I bought it because of the maintenance records on it and it was always serviced at the dealership. Brought it home last Friday and started throwing hot codes to the point where it went into limp mode. Pulled the impeller (pictures attached) and this is what it looks like. Doesn’t look like it’s been replaced, according to the service records, in about 400 hours. 2 questions, were these Ex 343 motors known to burn up impellers? I can’t understand (unless it was run out of water) why it looks like this. Second question, how concerned do I need to be about the impeller debris running through the rest of the engine? When we got back to the trailer, I hooked it up to a hose and it ran perfectly fine and didn’t overheat while the hose was pumping water into the motor. Anything else I need to be concerned about?

It should be replaced yearly never more than 100 hours. 400 hours is way to many its not surprising it looks like that . You have to take apart the cooling system and find all the impeller parts. A good place to start is the thermostat . Make sure you buy a PCM brand impeller there are a lot of cheap knock offs out there . Nautique Parts is a good place to buy from.

A friend of mine put a generic impeller in his 08 210 it lasted about 20 hours . He overheated the engine so he shut it down the hot engine sucked the water into the engine through the exhaust . When he tried to start it it was hydro locked and broke the starter . Multiple oil changes , new starter, new impeller and take apart the cooling system looking for the impeller parts he got lucky and there was no permanent damage. All caused by a cheap impeller . If you want to chance it over a few bucks go ahead . For me if its not OEM it doesn't go on my boats
