Boat Won't Shut Off - Key Pad Issue?

I have a 2007 236 with the key pad ignition. We went to the lake on Monday and at the end of the day the boat wouldn't shut off when pushing the stop button on the key pad. Also, the belly ballast pump would not shut off. We had to shut off the power with the battery switch. Luckily this was at the end of the day when we were putting the boat on the trailer. Two weeks ago I had the dealer replace the positive battery cable end since the clamp had a crack in it. Instead of putting a clamp type end on, they put a lug type end which is much smaller and on the smaller battery terminal post. We were running the boat off this battery. Other threads here indicate the key pad is likely to blame, but is there any reason that the smaller new battery cable end would cause the key pad to not function correctly? If it is the key pad, it looks like its easy to swap out, with one plug in the back. Any tips on getting the old key pad out would be great. And any advice on programming the new key pad? Thanks for your help.

My 2004 216 keypad was very sensitive to poor ground and/or positive connections. I’d check your battery connections since you didn’t have that issue before the new battery cable.

Same thing with my parents 2007 211 TE over memorial weekend. First time out this season with it. Maybe first time jitters but was told either its keypad or black box relay to rhe keypad. Was told relay is usual the culprit.

Thanks. Do you know where that relay is located?
I ordered a new keypad just in case. Feels like the boating season might be short in Utah this year. Water levels are pretty low.

Given it won’t shut off but has power tells me it’s the keypad, they do go bad occasionally. Replacement isn’t too bad, you have to pull off the dash to get at it from behind. First remove the screws/knobs holding the dash pod in place, lift it up a bit, and reach in behind the keypad to disconnect the square quick connect plug to the keypad. Then unbolt the steering wheel and you can remove the two bolts from behind that hold the keypad in place and switch it out.

by default the new pad is not locked/programmed with a 4-6 digit code. You can follow the instructions to program a new code if you want to.

Im not too technically inclined but i would say follow the wires from the keypad and it should lead to relay box. of course, if keypad doesnt fix the problem.
