    2007 226 bilge pump problem

Good morning. I'm having a problem with the bilge pumps tripping breakers on my 226. Last year both pumps worked fine. This year during my first trip out I noticed that both bilge pumps would trip the breakers. The rear bilge pump will not pump water before it trips the breaker. It will run for just a couple seconds then trip the breaker. The breaker for the rear bilge pump is under the dash. The front/auto bilge is in the front of the boat and is on a breaker located in the rear locker next to the battery disconnect switch. The auto bilge will pump water and will run for 5-10 seconds before tripping the breaker. I replaced the auto bilge with a new oem bilge and I still have the same problem. It seems odd to me that two separate pumps on two separate circuits are tripping two separate breakers and it all started happening at the same time. My local service center can not look at it for 15 weeks, and a couple other shops I called are minimum 10 weeks out, so I need to try and fix this problem myself. One of the service centers recommended me upping the breaker size but that doesn't seem right to me. Can anyone offer some trouble advice? any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Just a guess, but if it tripping both breakers maybe the pump is bad and pulling to many amps. Replace the pump and you might be good to go.

You could put a multi meter on the connection, turn it on and see how many amps are drawing.

I replaced the front pump with the same results. I was also informed that the breakers are what is bad. I hooked the pumps up to a larger breaker. They run now on the larger breaker but after they were running for a few minutes I started smelling burning electrical. I turned them off but could not isolate where the smell was coming from. Any recommendations on how to locate a short in the electrical system? or what else it might be?
