Replace obsolete 2 wire 500 gph rule bilge pump

I have a failed Rule 500 gph 2 wire bilge pump in my 2005 SN 196 limited. These 2 wire pumps are discontinued.
Pumps now have a 3 wire configuration where the 3rd wire is for manual operation bypassing the water level sensor. I’m assuming the manual (3rd wire) needs to be connected to the push button located on the dashboard? Where can I easily access the dash bilge button wire?

I just replaced the same one on my '07. I just bought the pre-wired one from Nautique Parts. It has the plug already installed and the manual override wire isn't used. You could do the same yourself. Real easy to replace.

Thanks MN Ryan! quick question, does this replacement work in the manual (dash button activated mode) as well as bilge only mode?

The Rule Automatic bilge pump with 2 or 3 wires works with your boat. Your existing configuration likely has just 2 wires—black and brown (not brown with white stripe). If you buy a 3 wire pump, simply snip off the brown and white stripe wire and seal up the cut end with something like Liquid Electrical Tape. Then simply wire it up using the black and brown wires.

The AUTOMATIC Rule pump for many Nautiques is designed for “constant ON”. Every 2-3 minutes, the pump turns on for a short burst. If the pump senses a load on the impeller, that means that it is pumping water. The pump stays on until the load decreases. Then the pump shuts off…for 2-3 minutes and cycles on for a short burst. Rinse, repeat. With the bilge pump switch at the helm in the ON position, the pump does its on/off cycle program. As long as the bilge is not taking on water, the pump is only ON every 2-3 minutes…for a short burst. If the helm switch is off, the pump does not cycle on/off…water is not pumped out.

My 2001 Ski has a battery isolator switch with a bilge pump only setting. If the boat is sitting in water for an extended time, all power is cut off…except to the bilge pump. This is a safety precaution to keep the boat from sinking due to taking on water while unattended (assuming the battery holds out).

Just wanted to come back here as I had to replace my other bilge pump today (pump works fine but the output nozzle cracked off).

I ordered the Rule 25SA without the grey plug, clipped the plug off the old pump, connected it to the brown and black wires on the new pump, terminated the brown striped wire on the new pump, and it works perfectly.

Well done, lad. To quote Dire Straits: "...that's the way you do it..."

I followed MN Ryan's advice and changed out the bilge pump w/the Rule OEM model as he described. Thanks to everyone for sharing their advice.
