Hey Forum Members, I am very frustrated and need any advise you may have. I just completed my first 25 hour oil change on my G23 and i noticed oil at the lip of the screw on filter. I did tighten it rather tight and thought that that could be the issue so I replace the oil filter with the same exact type (both were OEM pleasure craft filters). The second one leaked as well but to a less degree. Running for about 1 hour the lip fills with oil but does not really drip down the filter like the first one did. I wipe it dry and with a fem minutes the oil is back. I assume if I left it alone it would begin to drip down the filter. So I installed a third filter and this time a Fram XG8A. I cleaned the area real well and lubricated the gasket and the seating surface and hand tightened it snuggly. Again within minutes the filter lip fills with oil.
I have changed oil in cars for 40 years and never had a filter leak after just a hand tightening. Only thing I can think of is that the mating surface on the block where the filter screws into is slightly warped. But I would be surprised since this is a new boat. I did not notice any oil on the filter when I removed the factory one.
I know I can have the boat dealer look at this but they are backed up 6 weeks and its in the middle of the summer and I do not want to miss this lake time.
Any Advise is Appreciated.
