    Thermostat walk through -2006 SANTE 5.7 330

    Hi Al,
My engine temp has been reading low for a while. and folks recommended to replace thermostat. I ordered the thermostat and gasket kit before I left on vacation. Is there a walk-through on where the thermostat would be housed?

Also do I need to pick up some gasket sealant to kind of paint on like I used to do with I/o’s?

Just wanna have everything I need when I get back from my trip to knock it out quickly lol

Its pretty straight forward. You will need the following tools

    1/4" Hex Socket
    10mm Socket

If you take the cover off the top of the motor and look towards the transom, you will see a black plate with 2 hoses going into it from the exhaust risers. if you remove the 2 hex head bolts, and the 10mm bolt it should pop right off. you shouldn't even have the remove the hoses coming from the exhaust risers ( you may need to to clean the old gasket off ). You just pop out the old stat, put the new one in, new gasket, and bolt her back together.

    Pretty simple stuff.

I'm taking mine out tonight. I'll try to remember to snap a pic of it's location. It's pretty easy. Mine was stuck together really well and took some BFH coercing to separate the housing.

Thanks guys not bad to do.

Removed hoses ( get these tools Swpeet 3Pcs Hose Clamp Plier Set, Including 2Pcs Hose Removal Hook Set with 45° Flat Band Hose Clamp Plier Angled Swivel Jaw Locking Car Water Pipe Perfect for Hose Installations of Low Radiators https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TB33Z2H...ing=UTF8&psc=1).

Get a razor scraper, remove all the old gasket material. Mine was PETRIFIED! Then I bought new lock washers for all 3 bolts :-)

Add some anti seize to the threads. And torqued it all to 20 ft lbs.

Ran on a hose Till the thermostat opened and closed a couple times. And double checked for no leaks :-).

Pretty quick job but the hoses were a little sticky and took a few minutes to scrape the material from the gasket.

Watch those long tails on the hose clamps. I suffered a nasty cut from one and later installed a bag of end guards.

                Hey Ryan,
Yes the gauge worked fine up to temp and then dipped down when the thermostat opened.

If nothing else I consider it one of these every two or three years type of maintenance item either way.

                But yes ;-)
